Civil Service
The City of Paris Police Department operates under the auspices of Government Code Chapter 143, commonly referred to as Civil Service. The City of Paris is an equal opportunity employer and strives to maintain a police force that is consistent with the diversity of the community.

Under Civil Service, a written examination is given to potential police applicants. Applicants must pass the written examination with a score of 70% or better for inclusion on the eligibility list.

Certified Peace Officers are given preference on the eligibility list. Veterans of the US armed services are given five additional points to their passing score with submission of the form DD-214 showing an honorable discharge with at least 180 days of service not including training.

The eligibility list is good for 12 months or until all applicants for that list have been processed.

Civilian Opportunities
Civilian positions in the department such as communications, records, clerks, secretaries, animal control officers, and kennel technicians are posted only when openings occur.

Postings are available on this website under Human Resources web page and also throughout the city buildings including the lobby of the police department and at the city hall annex building.
